Yellowstone National Park is surely one of the most stunning natural habitats on planet earth. Irene Yacobson visited Yellowstone in 2012, armed with 3 cameras, she captured the essence of the area with a series of wonderful landscape photographs.
Irene told Photophique about her photographic journey in Yellowstone:
“A little less than a year ago I went to Yellowstone National Park with a small group of photographer buddies, three cameras (Nikon D7000, old mechanical Hasselblad, and an iPhone) and the hope of taking as many pictures as I want whenever I want without feeling guilty (ask your non-photographer friends or relatives how they feel about having to wait until you take “just one more shot”). This was my first Yellowstone visit and even though I saw many, many pictures from this place, no pictures can prepare you for the kind of wonderland Yellowstone is.
You may know that the park is sitting on the largest supervolcano in North America. And it shows. Although the last big eruption happened more than 150 thousand years ago, the ground seems alive. Geysers shooting up into the sky, boiling little lakes, bubbly pots of clay, the steam escaping from every little hole in the ground … all these make Yellowstone a unique and constantly changing place.
Also, non-stop steam action does wonders for the light (I think refraction is the correct word). The light in Yellowstone is truly amazing and changes fast, which makes it impossible to stop pressing the shutter button. And this is how everyone who goes to Yellowstone comes back with at least a million shots. There is something to be said about Yellowstone’s sunrises and sunsets as well — I have a few of each to show for every day we spent there).
I would love to go back sometime. After all, I only have a million pictures from this place (including 4 rolls of film)!”
