Nikon have just announced the 1 AW1 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera System. The world’s first waterproof Interchangeable Lens Compact (ILC) camera, it looks a sturdy and rugged design that is bound to be well received, it certainly looks the part.
The 1 AW1 boasts a 14.2-megapixel CX sensor, Full HD 1080p video, an ISO range of 160-6400, a 73-point AF array and high-speed continuous shooting at 15 fps with full autofocus. Able to withstand depths of up to 49ft, and allegedly able to withstand drops from 6.6ft, this promises to be a camera you could take pretty much anywhere.
The 1 AW1 is fully compatible with all Nikon 1 lenses and two waterproof and shockproof lenses. It also sports GPS, built-in altimeter, compass and a depth gauge.
The Nikon 1 AW1 ships next month for $799 including the kit lens, and is available in three colour choices; black, white or silver.
